Salem, VA Concert Review by tillerman
YEEHAW! Another awesome show from Ran and the Band. Even with a couple of band member changes (Ron has left and Keith is at home awaiting the birth of his child) it was still another high energy show. She started out with "What about Georgia" and played all of her singles and sang two new songs from her upcoming album including the single that is supposed to come out next month. The two new songs, "Gunpowder and Lead" and the new single "Crazy Ex-girlfriend" are both rockers filled with lots and lots of attitude. We stood front row center around a small bump-out of the stage and Hunter would have had his run of it if it weren't for the security guard nazis who were apparently concerned that a four-year-old was going to pose a risk to Ran. In reality, he just wanted to get up on stage with her and jam. Twice during the show Ran did come out on to the "stagette" followed by the band and rocked out only inches away and both times before she retreated to the main stage she planted a kiss on to Hunter's cheek making every guy in the place jealous. Ran also did another CCR cover "Traveling Band", the usual cover song "Hillbilly Highway" and finished up with "Kerosene"
On a side note, the first act of the evening, Randy Rogers called Ran "the toughest girl in country music."
We weren't able to stay for Deirks because as some of you know, concerts with a four-year-old don't always go well. Hunter became upset because he wanted to go up on stage with Ran and wasn't able to. It was heartbreaking to see him that way but soooo adorable see how much he loves her.
Finally as with all of her shows, it was over much too soon and we had to return. Oh well, it allows us to look forward to the next show.
